Hi

There are several playlists I do not need (Recently added, Top Rated etc) - but I cannot see a way to hide them - (they are always at the top of the list) - can they be hidden/removed?

Yes in settings / browsers / playlist browser / smart playlists -> uncheck those you wish to hide.
